When it comes to a custom motorcycle wheel, there is tough and there is badass tough. Upgrading your motorcycle to a wide front tire fat wheel can amplify its toughness factor in a major way and give you solid street cred.

Fat wide wheels have come a long way in recent years in the motorcycle industry. Tires that are 150 mm in size are no longer considered that wide.

Enhancing the look of your bike is not the only reason to upgrade your motorcycle to fat-wide tires. Keep reading to discover the benefits wide tires offer.

Advantages of a Wide Front Tire Motorcycle

The wider front tire definitely changes how your motorcycle will ride. One of the advantages that you will notice is the confidence-inspiring stability you will feel when you’re riding down the road. With the wider contact patch of rubber on the road, these wheels also handle great in the rain.

A great advantage to the wider front tire is that it absorbs road imperfections a lot better than those skinny motorcycle fronts as well. With a wider front tire, it will take a little more effort to lean your motorcycle over in turns but after a couple of rides, it feels like second nature again.

With the wider wheel, it can definitely affect the rake and trail measurements on your motorcycle. The advantage of installing a 21″ x 5.5″ Bulldog Series wheel is that you can use the same triple trees as a skinny 23″ would be running. We prefer to use the 23″ American Suspension triple trees for the Harley Davidson riders. Indian motorcycles have a couple of options for their triple trees.

The fender will need to be replaced, and we recommend using a Fat Katz steel front fender to really set off your new wheel. They offer a wrap style and a classic style that has the straight-back styling of the OEM fender. In all, to run a 21″ x 5.5″ Bulldog wide wheel you will need a set of triple trees and a new front fender to go along with your rim and tire combo.

To run a 23″ x 5.5″ Bulldog Series wide front motorcycle wheel with a tire, we have to make some bigger modifications to the steering geometry of your bike. The overall rolling diameter of this wheel mounted with a tire is very similar to that of a skinny 26″ wheel. So an American Suspension 26″ bolt-on rake kit will be needed to run these 23″ Bulldog wheels.

If you currently have a 26″ wheel all you need is a new motorcycle fender and the wide front wheel/tire combo of your choice. The current rake you have set up will work perfectly with it!
